One More Time...

Woof. Alright. here goes.

This is attempt...what...five or six at keeping some sort of consistent blog or painting log? Countless others fallen by the wayside as I get distracted and disheartened by the lack of any sort of interactions or comments...or hell, even general encouragement. So, I figured I'd try again and focus on one thing I actually...well...like.

So here it is. The first post on a new blog where I will...generally ramble about what appears to be my thing in general in the 40k Hobby - Chaos Space Marines. They've been the army I played (sort of) since 2nd edition (though truth be told back then it was Genestealer Cult with Chaos Marine allies) and have stuck with since, through the highs and lows of it all. Sure, I've dabbled elsewhere but it's all ended up sold off and now once more I am with the army I started with. Well...several armies of it.

So let's go through them in order...and discuss them in an introductory sense.

The Death Guard

The Death Guard were my first Chaos army...and this version has persisted since 5th edition 40k, through thick and thin. It's been whittled down a bit, parts sold off to make ends meet but a solid core still remains. I'm an odd sort of traditionalist. I adhere to established fluff rules of minimal vehicles and a focus on infantry...and as such their success rate is...hah, negotiable. There's a handful of things to paint and perhaps, when finances aren't an issue I will want to get Mortarion and a few other things to add to the army and paint to a standard I'm happy with..but they're not going to be the main focus of this blog.

The World Eaters

My 'current' Chaos army and likely to be the focus of a lot of early on posts, once I get my painting mojo back. A fun combination of various painting techniques from weathered metal to sticky, slick gore and a fun contrast through those methods. This is a purely fluffy and, well, fun army - I've grown tired of the local WAAC approach and tired of facing people who aren't playing a game...but milking a ruleset for maximum gain with seemingly no enjoyment. No, these guys are ultimatelyj ust going to be a purely for fun force. Minimal tricks, minimal cares.

And finally...

The Black Legion

With an impending range update I've long needed to figure a 'generic' Chaos Legion that appeals to me...but also one that covers the gaps of Tzeentch and Slaanesh well enough. I've sold two Thousand Son armies off as they just don't suit me and my Emperor's Children were sold off recently as well for the same reason. Instead I need something that can be a nod towards the powers but also lets me have variety...

And the inspiration was this piece of art from the old 3.5 Chaos Codex...particularly the top and top left characters - Devram Korda and Ygethmor the Deceiver. Suitable characters who I could happily convert up and make the most of the new range to build a generic army that ties nicely along with my existing two forces.

Of course, making both these characters will be a pain - I'm currently trying to track down some of the old Dark Vengeance Chaos models...in particular the Chaos Lord and the Chaos Chosen with a Power Fist...to convert to Ygethmor and Korda respectively...

Then it's simply a case of wait and see what comes out...and try to save what few pennies I can...or hope for birthday luck. Hah.

More shall come in the future. With better lighting as well I should hope.
